Lightning bolts are hotter than the surface of the sun.

A lightning bolt is an incredibly powerful electrical discharge that can instantly heat the air around it to about 30,000 degrees Celsius. That's actually about five times hotter than the surface of the sun we see! This enormous heat makes the air expand super fast, creating the boom we call thunder.
