True or False

All gladiator fights in Rome ended in death.

Despite popular belief, most gladiator fights were not actually deadly. Gladiators were expensive to train and maintain, making them valuable assets to their owners. A defeated gladiator could often be pardoned by both the audience and the referee, or even by the emperor himself, based on their displayed skill and courage. While the fights were brutal, death was not the expected outcome of every match.
