The ocean is blue because it absorbs red light.
When sunlight hits the ocean, the water drinks up colors like red and orange. Blue light, however, scatters around much more and bounces back to our eyes. That's why the ocean looks blue to us! So, it's the water's own tiny bits that make the blue color, not just because it's reflecting the sky.
